Thinking Activity: CS unit:2 Five type of Cultural studies

Hello Readers!!!

Here I share my understanding on Five type of Cultural studies. It is a part of our syllabus. This activity given by Dr. Dilip Barad sir.

What is a Cultural studies?

In brief I am discribed what is cultural studies. It is the science of understanding modern society, with an emphasis on politics and power. Cultural studies is an umbrella term used to look at a number of different subject. Categories studies include media studies including film and Journalism, Sociology, Industrial Culture, Globalization and social theory. To pursue cultural studies is to try to decipher the world that we live in. The definition of cultural studies can sometimes be misconstrued. It is not simply the study of different cultures but uses many other studies to analyse different cultures such as philosophy, theology, literature etc.

What is the British Cultural Matirealism:

Cultural Matirealism is a emerged as a theoretical movements is the early 1980s. Along with new Historicism. Which is a American approach to early morning modern literature with it says many of the properties term was coined by Williams. Who is too discribed a theoretical plaindid, mixing of culturalism and maxies analysis. So basically it is a theory which views as a productive process, focusing on arts such as literature. Within this culture art is translated as a social use of material means of production. The concept of "Literature" is seen as a social development, which according to Williams, only truly devloped between the 18th and 19th century, within our culture.

They have been many books in the topic on cultural studies are nameing here and there are few famous books writers.

What is contribution of Michel Foucault in new Historicism?

It is the right approach to answer this question. Michael fucaut worner phrases new Historicism's motto as "The text is historical;and history is textual." It is concerns itself with extraordinary matters. The new Historicism rejects this periodization of History in fevor of ordering history only through the interplay of forms of power.

How can new Historicism help in answering the question raised against Laputa episode in Gulliver's travels?

We can seen that a reading of Book III that makes some new historicist sense out of Swift's use of Laputa. Laputa is a gigantic trope of the female body; it has at its centre a giant lodestone on which the movement of the island depends. Laputa is like a uterus and vagina; when Gulliver and the Laputians are able to enter this cavity at will and control not only the movements of the lodestone and island, but also the entire society. But eventually the control over the feminine that drives Laputa becomes it's own undoing, for the more the men of the island try to restrict thier women from traveling below to Balnibarbi, the more male impotence threatens Laputian society.

Thus, in "A Voyege to Laputa" , control of women has to mean control of their discourse as well as their sexuality, reflecting the contemporary debates of Swift's day, and of course these are the large emphases on power in the matter of Jonathan Swift's Laputa.

Examplify four types of analyses of popular culture.

We can seen that in popular culture, there are four types of analyses: Production analysis, textual analysis, audience analysis, historical analysis. It has been analyses seek to get beaneath the surface meaning and examine. More implicit social meaning. First we can seen production analysis. It is noted on the media, publishing text, constraints and democratic and elitist. When we analysis of production we can analysis of all things. Second is based on contemporary world in specific works of popular culture and then create meanings. Third is examplify in popular culture, it can be focused on consumers, user, sense of the texts and different groups of popular culture. Last one when we focus on Cultural studies at that time we can says that it is investigates to how these other three dimensions change over time. For example in "Frankenstein", the popular culture reconstructions of a work like Frankenstein can also open it to unforeseen new interpretations.

Modernism and Post Modernism:

Without understanding Modernism, it is difficult to understand the 20th century. It currents were first felt in 1890-1910s in art, music, painting, literature and architecture. One of the major epicenters of this movement seem to be Vienna. It effect was first felt to be in France, Germany, Italy and then in Britain in art movements like Cubism, Dadaism, Surrealism and Futurism, Modernism rejected all the previous notions in art; such as the melody and harmony were put aside in music; perspective and direct pictorial representation were abandoned in painting. In literature, there was a rejection of traditional realism (chronological plot, continuous narrative by omniscient narrator, close reading etc.) all these were done in favor of experimental forms of various kinds.

Thank you....
