Introduction of the Author:

     T. P. Kailasam was a playwright and prominent writer of Kannada Litreture. His contribution to Kannada theatrical comedy earned him the title Prahasana Prapitamaha, "the father of humorous plays" and later he was also called "Kannadakke Obbane Kailasam" meaning "One and only Kailasam for Kannada".

Brief information about "The Purpose" :

'The Purpose' by T. P. Kailasam is a short play dramatizing events that occurred in the Mahabharata involving Drona, Arjuna and Eklavya. Drona is a skilled teacher, renown throughout the land for his wisdom and skill.... Eklavya is a tribal boy from a relatively far - away area.

This play is divided into two acts. The central theme based on Adi parva of The Mahabharata.

(1) compare and contrast Arjun and Eklavya's character.

The similarly between both the characters is that both went to become the world's best archery. Though, the aim is same, the purpose is different. Arjuna has the personal purpose and Eklavya has purpose to save innocent animals. The name of the title of the play "The Purpose'" which given by playwright appropriately with the centre of the story.

Now let's talk about contrast or difference between these two characters Eklavya and Arjuna; that these both the characters have their own aspects and different point of views about the purpose of learning archery. In their childhood, Eklavya tells Arjuna face to face that Arjuna cannot improve it and will continue his archery like is doing at that time. This shows that Eklavya is self learner and fast learner various Arjun comparatively slow learner. Eklavya never loses his temper in small matters various Arjun has hasty nature.

After Eklavya lost thumb he feels very depressed and expresses his feeling with words:

"Will you all please leave me Tomy own self?"

"You know it will never be farewell between us, Gurujee"

"Gods! My fawns in distress! And I too helpless myself to help them."

(2) what is subaltern? Who do you think is the subaltern in this play? Explain with examples.

The meaning of Subaltern, the 'subaltern' is used in post-colonial theory the exact meaning of the term in current philosophical and critical usage in disputed.

'Subaltern' originally is a term for subordinates in military hierarchies which is elaborated in the work of Antonio Gramsci to refer to groups who are outside the established structure of political representation. Subaltern was first used in a non-military sense by Marxist Antonio Gramsci. It has also been emphasized that the term subaltern is an allusion to the work of Italian Marxist Antonio Gramsci which literally, refers to any person or groups or inferior rank and station, whether because of race, class, gender, sexual orientation, or religion.

we can say that ranting in a society. we can say that Eklavya is a subaltern in this play because he was belonging to lower caste people is any other boy is represented as a marginalised person.

(3) write your views about education system in India with reference to past and present time.

Now you can shut down our teachers and classroom if we are not understanding the topic or we are not in a mode to study. we can put teacher on repeat mode can make them stand still or speak fast or slow as our teachers now are Google Wikipedia, YouTube, and computer laptop our classroom. The system of education has come a long way and also the teachers classrooms even students have changed. But one thing which has not changed is important knowledge through learning which is a never ending process.

In ancient times, India had the Gurukul a system of education in which anyone who wished to study went to a teacher's house and requested to be taught. If accepted as a student by the Guru, he would then stay at the Guru's place and help in all activities at home. This not only created as strong tie between the teacher and the student but also taught the student everything about running a house.

Comparison between past and present time:

Movies examples:

It shows the struggle of Anand an Indian mathematician who quit his job as a teacher as a top coaching centre to teach underprivileged children. It shows Roshan's character go through all the hardship to school his students enabling them to book a seat at the covented IITs. That is a best example of education system.

Hichki (2018):

She, however, is determined as a teacher to take her students along on the path of learning. Second example of present education system.

(4) In dronacharya an ideal teacher? and If yes, then how? and if No, then why? explain with example.

No, Dronacharya is not ideal teacher. Because he accused of favouritalism, His favourite was Arjun and to make him the world's best Archer, he has done many things which would be considered unethical. Eklavya was a tribal kid who wanted to learn archery, he comes to Drona for there but Drona rejects it saying that he cannot teach him along with kshatriya kids, since he was of lower caste people. Drona anyways granted Eklavya aboon, by which whenever he meditation on Drona, he will receive a divine weapon.

(5)write something about your experience like Eklavya or Arjun with any teacher during your study phase till now.

Yes, when I was secondary school, a teacher was partiality to me and did not ask me when I was answering the question and where I raise my finger, I would not ask the teacher but only some of his fixed students. Then I complained to the principal and got a solution.

Second experience, when I was primary. We had a unit test in which one of my teacher used to check the paper and give it to students of this tutions and the students would do more than his marks. Yet sir did not notice anything of it.

    Thank you........
