"Hamlet" - Movie scrrning
Hello friends!
Here is my task on thinking activity based on Hamlet movie screening given by Dr. Dilip Barad Sir click here visit to blog.
Introduction of the Hamlet by William Shakespeare:
In the only unabridged film version of the classic play, here updated to the 19th century, prince Hamlet (Kenneth Branagh) is traumatized by the revelation that his father was murdered by the present king, Claudius (Derek Jocobi), with the wind of Hamlet's mother, Gertrude (Julie Christie). Hamlet considers a plot for revenge and mistakenly kills Polonius (Richard Briers), the father of his love, Ophelia (Kate Winslet), causing a chain reaction that leads to a climactic and tragic ending.
'Hamlet' Movie screening:
Blenheim palace is the setting used for the exterior grounds of Elsinore Castle and interiors well all photographed at Shepperton studios, blended with the footage shot at Blenheim.
Here is my task based on Hamlet movie screening by Kenneth Branagh.
1)How faithful is the movie to the original play?
Ans. Yes, The movie 'Hamlet' by Kenneth Branagh in my point of view very faithful to the original play. They used every dialogue from the movie is same. So I can say it is very authentic to the book. One thing that he used some extra scene and good techniques to make more creative but the main theme or purpose of movie is on the right track. Movie in scenes like the conversation between ghost and Hamlet . Hamlet's rude behaviour to words ophelia, we can notice it is very well directed and performed, it can express emotions as well as by imagination while reading.
2) After watching the movie, have your Perception about play, characters or situation changed?
Ans. According to my opinion about play, characters and situation are changed. One point is that in this movie Gertude is very happy but in the book Gertude is not happy. While reading we can imagine the different kind of situation and scenes of the play, but after watching the movie we come to know about how the dialogues were delivered, and after observing the expressions. We conclude the interpretation more effectively. It has given a perfect support to the play to get proper meaning.
3) Do you feel 'Aesthetic delight' while watching the movie?
Ans. Yes, when Hamlet was died and his words were gave me aethetic delight " The rest is silence". It was gave me aesthetic delight:
I am feel 'Aesthetic delight' when watching this movie at the begging Horatio and Hamlet talking about it is not right that Claudius become king of Denmark. The Horatio said that I know your father at the time. The Hamlet seeva ghost. He is following the ghost and the said that 'I am spirit of your father'. This scene is aesthetic delight.

4) Do you feel 'Catharsis' while of after watching movie?
Ans. Yes, exactly I feel 'aesthetic delight', critic Northrup Frye has evaluated Hamlet as a play without catharsis but... I feel catharsis while watching movies firmly decided to the revenge. When Claudius is become a king and his mother married with Claudius within couple of day his father's death that is a 'catharsis'.
5) Does screening of movie help you in better understanding of the play?
Ans. The movie is helps better understanding than the original play because it is gives wider knowledge than the original play. In the movie the audience capture the moment vwhich interpretation by the director. In the film the scene, plot, setting, situation is very beautiful arrranged by the director, so it is better understanding than the original play.
6) Was the any particular scene or moment in the movie that you will cherish lifetime?
Ans. One moment is cherish lifetime ACT 5 scene 2. Dialogue between Hamlet and Horatio. When Horatio tries to explain Hamlet that if your mind dislike anything, obey it but... Hamlet replies in very meaningful words that: " Not a whit, We defy augury if it be not to come it will now... If it be not now, yet it will come the readiness is all. Here in this Scene we can see the depest understanding of Hamlet and well bond friendships with Horatio.
7) If you are director, what changes would like to make in the remaking of movie on Shakespeare's 'Hamlet'?
Ans. If I am a director of the movie of Hamlet that I am changing the beginning and ending sequences because the solidiers is broken down the statue of Hamlet this moment is not right according to me because he is decided to take a revenge of his father and killed his uncle. He doing such kind of thing under pressure his father.
8) What does the fallen status signifies?
Ans. In the beginning of the movie camera rolls over the statue of king Hamlet out side the Elsinore Castle and end with similar sequence this scene symbolize the cycle life and death.
9) While studying the play through Movie, which approach do you find more applicable to the play? Why? Give reason with illustrations.
Ans. While studying the play through Movie I found historical and biological approach is more applicable. Because in the movie we can see Victorian Era's England and in the play there is Renaissance's Denmark and one more thing is in Denmark's prince Hamlet is that... he was really mad and that's the way he killed the all family member but Shakespeare made Hamlet's character as a thinking man.
10) Which of the above approach (in the pre-viewing task) appeals you more than other? Why? Give reason.
Ans. In previewing task I found moral philosophical approach more than the other approaches critics believe that larger purpose of Litreture is to teach morality and to probe philosophical approach. It help us in reason a question problem or difficulty in the reading..... the same way in the all soliloquies of Hamlet I found this approach more applicable.
Thank you.....
